Reading is home to many businesses and organisations that champion Fairtrade and promote ethical business.
In 2013 we introduced the idea of Reading’s Fairtrade Flagships, the ethical champions of our Fairtrade Town. Just about every food-shop and supermarket in Reading now sells some Fairtrade goods, and this marks the success of Fairtrade in the last ten years: Fairtrade has become mainstream. Our Reading Flagships, however, take a step further and actively promote Fairtrade. They are local champions, nominated by local people. Rather than compliance with the requirements of Fairtrade, the Flagships demonstrate commitment. Reading’s Fairtrade Flagships are retailers, traders, groups and organisations which make a real effort both to use Fairtrade goods and to promote the message of ethical trading and trade justice.
We are currently reviewing the Fairtrade Directory for 2019.
