Fairtrade Fortnight 2019

The focus for Fairtrade Fortnight this year is a Living Income for producer communities, supported by the #SheDeserves Campaign.

Our first main event takes place on 27th February and will explore 'Trade, Power & Poverty after Brexit' (Link to Facebook Event). Nick Dearden, Director of Global Justice Now UK will discuss the impact Brexit may have on trade justice and argue for a system that puts people and the planet before profits.

Our second main event takes place on 8th March; RISC are delighted to be able to welcome Heather Masoud, founder of Zaytoun for a celebration of Palestinian Women. Heather will talk about the impact of Fairtrade on Palestinian women producers. If that's not enough, there will also be:
  • A Bayt Exhibition of Palestinian clothing, textiles and jewelry by Suhad Jarrar.
  • Trish Whitham will speak about her Protective Presence olive picking experience near Nablus.
  • Debke dance by members of the Reading community.
  • Fair Trade stall, snacks and refreshments.
